Evrim Demirel

Evrim Demirel is one of the pioneer composers among the young generation of Turkey. He has been a leading figure who use non western instruments in a western approach. Demirel is known for his citations of styles and elements which could be called postmodern. His work includes an opera about Hitites Symphonic music, concertos, ensemble music and jazz. Demirel intagrates elements of different traditions in his own idiom.

"Combining Western and non-Western instruments Demirel explores a wide variety of timbres. He does this with a keen intellectual understanding of the various elements he works with, achieving an extraordinary freshness in his music."
